Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is the technology used to transmit voice conversations over a data network using the Internet Protocol.
Such data network may be the Internet or a corporate Intranet.
As the data is sent through the IP network, not the analogue switch environment, the costs are significantly lower. If the data never breaks out of the IP world, the call is completely free! If a call is between a normal phone and IP phone, the cost is minimal.
